The University of Virginia’s Department of Safety and Security (DSS) is led by the Associate Vice President of Safety and Security and Chief of Police, Timothy Longo, Sr. The Department of Safety and Security includes the University Police Department, Grounds and Medical Center Security, the Offices of Threat Assessment, Emergency Management, Clery and Youth Protection, and Safety and Security Technology. Together, the Department of Safety and Security identifies, deescalates, prevents, plans for, addresses, and responds to the safety-related needs of the University community to serve the goals of education, research, and patient care.
